background section

BPMN, BPM, process architecture and RPA

This course teaches you everything you need to know about BPM, BPMN, process architecture and RPA. What are they? BPMN—Business Process Model and Notation—has long been the standard modelling process. It is indispensable for business analysts, process analysts and functional analysts. BPM—Business Process Modelling—is used to organise by process rather than function; it gives insight into the ways different processes work. This has given rise to the desire to automate processes, made possible by techniques such as RPA and BP Engines. They allow processes to be improved without the need to custom code software.

Overview of the programme

  • BPMN fundamentals
In this course, you learn how to build comprehensible, legible and strong process descriptions within BPMN.
  • BPMN case 1
You apply the fundamentals of BPMN to a case study involving the handling of expense requests. This practical exercise not only builds on your foundations in BPMN, it pushes you to reflect on the knowledge you have acquired.
  • BPMN case 2
This case encourages you to explore the more advanced elements of BPMN. Designed to be challenging for novices and experts alike, it requires the use of process-modelling software Signavio.
  • BPMN cookbook
This course presents 20 practical problems and offers different approaches that may be used to solve each of them; the pros and cons of each solution are discussed. The practical problems have been selected for their relevance to junior and senior process or business analysts; you will undoubtedly encounter one or more in your professional life. However, with advice offered on how to deal with them, you will face these problems with confidence.
  • BPMN pro
The more advanced constructs of BPMN are visited in this course. Hard topics, like ad-hoc subprocesses, transaction sub-processes, and event sub-processes are all tackled. The operational semantics of different elements are discussed, with real-life examples used to demonstrate their application.
  • CMMN fundamentals
CMMN—Case Management Model and Notation—is an excellent supplement to BPMN. It is particularly useful in describing a process in which the sequence of steps needs to be flexible. In this course, a best-practice case study encourages you to use knowledge and experience for process planning and execution.
  • Process discovery
An organisation uses hundreds of processes. In this course, you learn how to identify these processes and the ways in which they relate to each other. You use proven process discovery techniques to define processes and ultimately improve your business process management.
  • Seven steps to process modelling glory
Build on your foundation of BPMN knowledge with practical advice on developing sound, clear and validated process models. When correctly used, the seven steps and guidelines in this course bring you to successful process models.
  • Understanding RPA
With advances in technology such as AI, self-driving cars and software that rewrites software, it is only logical that advancements are being made in business. RPA—Robotic Process Automation—is a technology with the potential to automate trivial tasks. This course teaches you about what it is and how it works, while giving you insight into its benefits and challenges.
  • RPA for the BA (February 2021)
Learn how to use RPA—Robotic Process Automation—to deliver better customer experiences, increase productivity and reduce costs. Plus, by automating repetitive tasks, process automation frees up the time of valuable employees, leaving them free to pursue work that adds value.
  • Process Architecture Pro (May 2021)
Building on what you have learnt in Process Discovery, this course gives you insight into how to identify and optimise your process architecture. Practical example demonstrate the difference between good and bad process architecture.
