Modern Access Control (EN)

Security is undeniably important when developing a web application or mobile app. The number of applications and (micro)services within and outside organisations is growing rapidly. 

OpenID Connect, OAuth2 and SAML are three flexible and secure protocols that enable access control in (and across) such environments. 

The course explores the details of this new approach to authentication and authorisation, both conceptually and through several practical examples. Concepts such as claims, federation, bearer tokens, security token service, access tokens, identity tokens, JWT, single sign-on, and so on will no longer be a mystery once you have completed this course.

  • Understand the basics of authentication and authorisation 
  • Understand key protocols in this field 

Program

  • Introduction to access control 

We will begin with an introduction to authentication (authN) and authorisation (authZ), followed by a discussion of the evolution of access control models. 

  • Fundamentals of access control 

We will cover the fundamentals of this field, including REST, JWT, tokens, and so on. 

  • Access control protocols 

We will discuss the key protocols in the field of authentication and authorisation: SAML, OAuth2 and OpenID Connect. OAuth2 and OpenID Connect in particular will be explained in detail, covering concepts such as PKCE.

This is a live classical training of 2 days.
