Program

  • Your first steps in data modelling 

A long time ago, when most computers were not yet capable of ‘speaking’, data modelling was introduced as a technique for designing an optimally structured database. We can still apply these techniques to represent important data. 
In this course, you will learn the theory behind this modelling technique and discover how to determine, based on the people who carry out the business processes or on the applications we need to build, which data is important and should be stored in a database. 
Enough theory, please give us a concrete example.

It’s time to put all that theory into practice and draw a few entity-relationship diagrams together. 
For example, help us design the database for a cinema complex, water level measurements, and so on… 
During the exercises, you’ll soon realise that reality isn’t always easy to capture using the rules you learnt in the previous module. 
That’s why, in this module, in addition to the exercises, you’ll receive the necessary guidance to give your models that extra bit of oomph by using enhanced ERDs.
